About Sendai
Sendai, known as the "City of Trees," is a vibrant hub in northeastern Japan with a harmonious blend of nature, history, and modernity. Founded in 1600 by the legendary samurai lord Date Masamune, Sendai boasts a rich cultural heritage. The iconic Sendai Castle ruins and the awe-inspiring Zuihoden Mausoleum are testaments to its storied past. Nature lovers will be enchanted by the scenic beauty of the region. Just a short trip from the city center, the stunning Matsushima Bay—celebrated as one of Japan's three most beautiful views—awaits exploration. Within the city, tree-lined streets and parks, such as Jozenji-dori Avenue and Nishi Park, create a serene urban atmosphere. Sendai is also renowned for its delectable local cuisine, including gyutan (grilled beef tongue) and fresh seafood. Coupled with the city's warm hospitality and rich traditions, your visit will be both memorable and inspiring. We are thrilled to host the 29th FJS at Tohoku University, one of Japan's premier academic institutions, located in this historical and picturesque city.
